Welcome to the fifth edition of the « New Orleans Meets Luxembourg « music festival » !
This exceptional All American Music Festival takes place on place Guillaume II, in the very centre of Luxembourg city during the Whit weekend, 21 to 23 May 2010. For the fifth time, “New Orleans Meets Luxembourg” is organized by the Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO) and will plunge Luxembourg into the musical and culinary ambiance of the American Deep South.
During 3 days, the Place Guillaume II will host a big swinging music stage with 50 live musicians playing all American music, including old-time jazz, country music, rhythm'n blues, gospel, jazz, Mississippi, just to mention a few. In 2010, the festival opens itself to new music genres, such as country and riverboat shuffle music. One of the highlights will be the Maverick’s Band’s famous country music show. On a culinary journey comprised of numerous stands, you can try famous specialties of Louisiana such as Gumbo, Jambalaya or spicy chicken wings. The entrance is free. Every year, up to 7.000 visitors attend the festival in a spirit of enthusiasm, communion and good mood, and spend 3 days in the Luxembourgish capital.
The festival was launched for the first time in Luxembourg in 2006 thanks to friendly relationships with the City of New Orleans, but also as an aid project for New Orleans’ impoverished musicians after the devastating passage of hurricane Katharina. What started as an act of solidarity immediately became a success story in Luxembourg’s thrilling festival scene.
Besides the festival “New Orleans Meets Luxembourg”, the Luxembourg City Tourist Office organises some of the largest and most popular music festivals, open air concerts and events in the capital as part of a sustained cultural policy. It actively promotes Luxembourg city as a vibrant cultural destination, enhances its reputation on an international level and attracts every year thousands of enthusiastic visitors.
